Stonehenge is a historic monument located in England in the county of Wiltshire and is one of the most well known sites in the world,
Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones.
It is at the centre of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.

The construction of stonehenge began around 5,000 years ago; the famous stones that still stand today were put in place about roughly 4,000 years ago.

Stone henge is such a mysterious place to visit, its estimated that over 800,000 people visit this site each year, and thousands of people gather on the summer solstice to watch the sunrise at this ancient and mysterious site.

These magnificent stones are set in almost perfect position with the sunrise on the summer solstice,
It is believed that Stonehenge was built as a sacred monument used for meetings and religious purposes. The key stones are aligned with major major solar and lunar events including Solstices and Equinoxes this would of been a special place of worship.

No one culture can be held responsible for the entire construction and history of the sacred Stonehenge. It is believed that Stonehenge was built in three stages by three different cultures.

To build stonehenge there were two different types of stones used, the ‘bluestones’ which would of weighed as much as 4 tons and are believed to have come from the Preseli Mountains in
in Pembroke, South Wales nearly 385 kilometres away, These stones are known to turn blue when water get onto them.
The other 30 stones used were the sarsen stones, these stones were around 18 feet in height and 25 tons in weight and its believed they came from a quarry at marlborough downs which was near avebury in north wiltshire 30 Kilometres away.

Just imagine how long it would have taken to build this remarkable monument, It has been estimated that it would have taken around 30 million hours of labour. Hundreds, if not thousands of people, must have been used to transport the stones to the site and for the construction of the amazing monument, These stones were transported at a time when the wheel was not even invented.
The stones from Marlborough Downs must have therefore been dragged using roller, sledges, ropes and levers. It could be very possible that they waited for the winter snow and transported the stones more easily across the ice.

The blue stones must have been dragged down to the sea and floated on huge rafts. From the sea they would have been brought up the River Avon which was only 2 kilometres away and then finally dragged overland to the site.

The ditches and embankments would have been dug by hand using animal bones and deer
antlers as pick-axes during the construction of stonehenge.

Shoulder blades of cattle or oxen were used as shovels to clear away the stones.

The Druids had nothing to do with the construction of the stone rings as the druids appeared several thousand years later in history. Druids are known to have conducted their ritual activities mostly in sacred forest groves.

Stonehenge is the most well known among the nine hundred stone rings which exists in the British Isles.

Stonehenge has many theories.
Some think that Stonehenge was a source of healing energy.
Some think that stonehenge was built and visited by Aliens, Many people have reported UFO'S Around stonehenge.
Some U.F.O. followers think that its possible that Stonehenge was constructed by aliens as we just did not have the tools or technology to construct such a monument, therefore they must have had help from more advanced people/aliens
The alignment of the stones seem to lend credibilty to an astronomy based design when being built. Some believe it served as an ancient calender. Some say it was an ancient graveyard the truth is we will never really know.

Some Visitors have taken camera's down to stonehenge and some of them seem to pick up strange photos/ images and recordings they didnt spot at the time. There is one story where a man was talking to a couple about stonehenge and they couple explained they are 100s years old and been here many times, near the end of the conversation the man looked away at something he noticed and turned back around to speak to the couple and they vanished, Like they was never even there.
